THE POLITICAL CHRISTIAN Why the Christian Right Is Seldom Christian and Almost Never Right
FOREWORD
The following doesn’t depend on the historicity of the man Jesus.
It does not depend on the historical accuracy of the Bible.
It does depend on the reported words of the Christ and the history
of how men thought about God over centuries as recorded in the Bible.
It argues that a dependence on the historicity of Jesus and a
literal reading of the Bible are impediments to faith and are
precursors to idolatry and blasphemy.
It argues that faith and belief are two very different states
and that faith, given the emotional courage of the individual,
will lead to a fulfilled life in the Spirit and a responsible
relationship between the individual and the world while belieF
can only ultimately lead to dogma, idolatry, exclusion, and hate.
It maintains that faith is invulnerable to anything but cowardice
and that belief is vulnerable to any contrary fact, fact that
will and must will be denied by the demagogues even if that
denial is built on gross distortions of God’s loving will for us.
It argues that if we observe the strictures our Christ has given
us that peace, love, and plenty can be a reality in every life
now and to come on this Earth.
It argues that the Christian Right, have chosen a path that leads
away from the Christ and appears to be in knowing calculated
blasphemous contradiction of God’s loving will for us.
It is not given to me judge. It is given to me to discern the
effect of an action. That distinction is a fine one and if,
in this, I err by falling into judgment, I beg your’s and
God’s forgiveness.
